welcome and happy holidays The Polar Express read aloud event this event is sponsored by h e s e l a social studies committee Miss Anderson 5th grade teacher Miss Culver fourth grade teacher Miss exceptional and Miss heading your Carnival Elementary School literacy Reading Coach welcome welcome everyone for joining us today on behalf on behalf of on behalf of our faculty and staff of Hardeeville after school we would like to welcome you to our Polar Express event welcome on behalf of principal Brian mr. Brian Jefferson are assistant principals missed a very bright and dr. Gilyard Geller on faculty and staff we welcome you to the virtual 80s Polar Express read aloud event thank you for tuning and today students parents and daughters a purpose is to continually promote to continually promote Ela reading activities for student achievement here at Hardeeville Elementary School we also encourage you to read with your child at home will encourage the students to read at home for 20 minutes at home each day literacy is important for a child's continued success All Aboard All Aboard come take the Polar Express read aloud ride with us Polar Express virtual read aloud tickets hgs onboard Hardeeville Elementary School onboard date Thursday December 17th 2020 this is a recording of a live event that occurred on December 17th at 10 a.m. virtually remember send us your picture and or a video to your teacher prizes will be given for the best picture and video you have your tickets quiet please let's get ready to listen and cam send a text as a read-aloud suggested enrichment again is create and write a brief summary you may read your summary and show your post in your video or show yourself reading the summary in a picture remember to send you a video and picture to your teacher by December 18th 2020 at 1 p.m. prizes will be given to the winners winners will be contacted soon and the fur first week of January 2021 boys and girls do you have on appropriate pajamas well good good good are you drinking some hot chocolate you hear that sound I have my hot chocolate ready and do you have some snacks you and your family from the comfort of your home very good remember this is a real loud would not showing the movie do the carpet copyright laws you will see pictures but I need you to listen to the words you may not be able to see the words but listen this is why it is called a treadle parents we encourage you to read how to your children Deli and ask those questions who what when why where how especially the wine the how questions get your kids to think about what they are reading also teacher. Hardeeville Elementary School we have read aloud as a part of the ELA block daily for instruction but we challenged students and we step up with the rigor with asking the wind how question the compare-and-contrast question you can do the same All Aboard one last call are you ready do you have your hot ready are you ready let's listen to some more music first important to hear it's important that everyone listen and to comprehend be quiet please The Polar Express read aloud Dumfries nature of the read aloud today is Miss patent your heart evil reading literacy coach be quiet we are about to start take your seats at home beginning on Christmas Eve years ago I lay quietly in my bed I breathe slowly and silently I was listening for a sound a sound a friend had told me I'd never hear the ringing bells of Santa sleigh there is no Santa my friend had assisted but I knew he was wrong at night I didn't hear style though but not a ringing Bells from outside King the sounds of hissing and squeaking met my window and saw a train standing perfectly still in front of my house I looked through my window and saw a train standing perfectly still in front of my house it was wrapped in an apron of steam snowflake spell likely around it a conductor Stewart at the open door of one of the cars he took a large pocket watch from his vest then looked up at my window I put on my slippers and my robe I tiptoed downstairs and out the door all aboard the conductor cried out I ran up to him well are you coming where I asked why to the North Pole was his answer this is the Polar Express I took his outstretched hand and he pulled me aboard Oswego the train was filled with other children all in their pajamas and nightgowns we sang Christmas carols and 8 candies and nougat centers as white as snow we drink hot cocoa as thick and Rich As melted chocolate bars outside the lights of towns and Villages flicker in the distance as the Polar Express raced northward there were no more nice to be seen we travel through cold Dark Forest where lean wolves wrong and white tails rabbits kids from I train and it's thundering Through The Quiet Woman we climb mountains so high it seemed as if we would scrape the moon but the Polar Express never slow down faster and faster we ran along rolling out and through valleys like a car on a roller coaster the mountains turned into heels snow covered Plains we cross the barren desert of ice the great polar ice cap lights appeared in the distance they look like the lights of a strange ocean liner sailing on a frozen sea is the North Pole the North Pole it was a huge City standing alone at the top of the world filled with factories or every Christmas toy was made at first we saw Noel's they they were gathering the center of the city the conductor told us that is where Santa will give the first gift of Christmas who received the first gift we all ask the conductor answer one for you one for you look up shouted one of the children the Al's outside we saw hundreds of elves as I trained you a closer center of the North Pole we slowed to a crawl so crowded where the streets with Santa's helpers when the Polar Express could go no farther we stopped at the conductor let us outside we press through the crowd to the edge of a large open circle in front of us to Santa's sleigh the ranger was cited they Prince and pay ringing the silver sleigh bells come from their harnesses it was a magical sound like nothing I've ever heard across the circle the elves moved apart and Santa Claus appeared the elves cheered wildly he marched over to us and pointing he said let's have this fellow here he jumped into his slave the conductor handed me up I sat on Santa's knee and he said what would you like for Christmas what would you like for Christmas I knew that I could have any gift I could imagine but the thing I wanted most for Christmas was not inside Santa's giant bag what I wanted more than anything was one Silver Bell from Santa sleigh when I asked Santa smile then he gave me a hug and told an elf to cut a bell from a reindeers harness the elf tossed it up to Santa he stood holding the Bell high above first gift of Christmas the first gift of Christmas a Clock Struck midnight as the elves brought their approval Santa handed the Bell to me and I put it in my bathrobe pocket the conductor help me down from the sleigh Santa shouted out the reindeers names and cracked his whip is teen charged for climbed into the air Santa Circle once above us that disappeared in the dark cold polar sky as soon as we were back inside the Polar Express the other children ask to see the bill I reached into my pocket but the only thing I felt was a whole I had lost a silver bell from Santa Claus's sleigh let's Harry outside and look for it one of the children said but the train gave a sudden Lurch and started moving we are on our way home it broke my heart to lose the bill for the train reached my house I sadly love the other children I stood at my doorway and waves goodbye the conductor said something from the moving train but I couldn't hear him he cupped his hands around his mouth as small as he shouted. Polar Express from its whistle and sped away on Christmas morning Sister Sarah and I are present when it looked as if everything has been unwrapped Sarah for one last fall box behind the tree it had my name on inside it inside was a Silverback there was a note found this on the seat of my sleigh fix that hole in your pocket signs Mister see it made the most beautiful sound my sister and I ever heard but my mother said oh that's too bad yes said my father and is broken when I second the Bell my parents had not heard a sound at one time most of my friends cuz here that bill but as years past it fell silent for all of them even Seraph Christmas that she could no longer here is Sweet Sound do I've grown old the Bell still rings for me as it does for those who truly believe Belize this read aloud was adapted for you and the credits are due to the Polar Express written and illustrated by Chris Van Allsburg and Google pictures deserve the credit some credits reminder suggested enrichment create a Polar Express poster and write a brief summary you may read your summary I saw your post in your video of show yourself reading the summary in a picture remember to send your video by December 18th and January 20-21 also we need for you to remember to read for at least 30 minutes a day students and parents read aloud to your students and let them to your child children and let them read silently also here at Hardeeville Elementary School we continue our read aloud as a part of our Ela block and we at all levels rigor questions we challenge our students with our questions and here at Hardeeville Elementary we pride ourselves on increased student participation happy holidays and hope you the presentation today
