2023-2024 Greetings: Welcome to the Literacy Coach Corner's Page!

Greetings!  I am Shirley J. P. Headen at Hardeeville Elementary School's Literacy Coach! 
  
I am excited to work with teachers, students, parents, and the community to provide support and assist with improving reading skills for students to read on grade level or above grade level. 
 
Ms. Shirley Headen is a native of Thomasville, North Carolina. Ms. Headen's education includes earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bennett College for Women (English Literature and Education; Language Arts 6- 8th grades), and a Master’s Degree from North Carolina A & T State University (English Literature & Education) plus some courses in Educational Leadership along with other professional development courses.
 
Ms. Headen's first teaching job was acquired in Savannah, Georgia, where she taught mostly all grade levels in elementary, and retired as a Lead/Gifted Facilitator /Test Coordinator for K-5th grades plus has taught students in grades K-5th grades over the years.  Ms. Headen is a retiree of The Savannah Chatham County School System, and decided to join #TeamJasper to continue in the field of education.
 
Ms. Headen has worked with the Jasper County school system 5 years as a fourth grade GT (Gifted) Cluster  Teacher, and this is her 4th year as a Literacy Coach. In 2018 at Hardeeville Elementary School, Ms. Headen was voted in by peers as H.E.S. Teacher of the Year. Ms. Headen has a passionate love for all students reading on grade level, and a love for all teachers growing and collaboratively working together in order for our students to read on grade level.  Reading is a key to success for other subject areas, too.
 
When teachers collaborate, use effective plus research-based strategies, then we grow professionally as a team.  Then, it  is indeed a "win" for the instructional setting.  Ms. Headen has a very strong desire for teachers and students to succeed, be happy plus positive, and feel confident. Ms. Headen looks forward to working not only with teachers, but also with students and  parents, and collaborating with community.  
 
Ms. Headen has the Read to Succeed Endorsement as a Literacy Teacher,  endorsement as a Read to Succeed Literacy Coach, endorsement as a Literacy Specialist, and also has a Gifted and Talented Endorsement. Ms. Headen is truly a team player and believes in H.E.S.  Motto: "Working TOGETHER in order to GROW together!"  We want our students to enjoy reading and grow in the various areas of reading.  We continue to focus on our data to drive reading instruction to meet the needs of all of our students.
