Reading Level Expectations & Literacy Coach Expectations

Please see the chart are attached above for Reading Levels for Grade Levels (F & P/Lexile Correlation.  Teachers in grades Kindergarten-5th Grade administer the F & P (Fountas and Pinnell) Reading Benchmark Assessment at the BOY (Beginning of the Year), MOY (Middle of the Year), and the EOY (End of the Year).

My Schedule:  Ms. Headen, the Literacy Coach is available from 7:05-3:00 p.m. on site, unless there are meetings, workshops, or seminars off campus. I provide effective professional development opportunities for teachers & staff, and support teachers with literacy every day about effective research-based instructional best practices for instruction (whole-class, small groups, and individual) as well as intervention strategies for balanced literacy.
 
My schedule varies daily, but I am here to support teachers, conduct various literacy professional development, students, and parents with literacy growth for best practices for instruction as it relates to literacy, coordinate literacy events, and other duties.

Duties of a Literacy Coach

  • A Literacy Coach works in partnership with the teachers and the teaching staff as a whole in terms of honing the reading skills of the students in alignment with their academic needs in their class subjects. The coaching style of the Literacy Coach is in relation to the academic requirements of the students.
  • A Literacy Coach is responsible for assessment and appraisal of the training system applied to the students. The Literacy Coach measures the understanding of reading among students in terms of assessment tests and other forms of appraisal which he or she should endorse to the teacher or school in-charge for further action plans, analyzing data with THE DATA TEAM PROCESS.
  • A Literacy Coach is responsible for initiating lesson tactics and methods in terms of tutoring the students in reading comprehension.
