Greetings HES Parents, Students and Community Stakeholders from the HES School Counselors
We do hope you are well and are almost as excited about starting a new school year as we are. We are certainly aware of the stressful and emotional concerns you have starting this new year with these unprecedented heath issues we all face.
While we all work through these changes, the school counselors are here to support you and your child to adjust to the constraints and uncertainties related to academic instruction during this World Health Pandemic. Please know that your child’s well-being academically, as well as emotionally and socially is our utmost concern. We will adjust as needed to accommodate your child’s needs as we provide support throughout the school year.
HES has two new counselors to provide services this school year:
Dr. Carletha W. Youmans – I am the designated counselor for the 3rd – 5th grade students. I have worked with students from kindergarten thru 12th grade over the span of my career and I am looking forward to using my counseling toolbox to help your children have a successful school year.
Ms. Kimberly Gadson will be serving as the counselor designated to serve the pre-k -2nd grade students. Ms. Gadson will split her time between the elementary and middle schools.
The School Counselor’s are here to provide instruction and support in helping students to understand and manage:
• Emotions, behavioral responses to stress and anxiety
• Positive goals
• Self-awareness- establish respect for themselves and others
• Communication and listening skills
• Responsible decision making
