Hardeeville Boys and Girls Club Awarded $259,408 to Assist With Afterschool Academic Enrichment

The Boys and Girls Club of the Lowcountry-Hardeeville Club was recently awarded $259,408 from the South Carolina Department of Education. The funding was awarded via the 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant. Over four million dollars was divided between several schools and non-profit organizations throughout the state for students who reside in high poverty areas.

The funding is beneficial to the students attending the Hardeeville Club as it aligns with the district’s continuous effort to improve literacy among the students of the Jasper County School District (JCSD). The district strives to increase literacy, and the additional funding will provide additional academic enrichment opportunities during non-school hours.

The Hardeeville Club is housed and operated at the Hardeeville Elementary School (HES). The club currently serves over 100 students and has availability to accept a few more students. The Boys and Girls Club of the Lowcountry is a great place for students to stay after school. The club provides a safe and secure environment for students while they receive additional academic support.

The club operates on a well-versed schedule to provide activities that are mentally, socially, and physically favorable for students. Club employees are knowledgeable and they have experience working with children; they provide homework assistance as needed. HES teacher and Hardeeville Boys and Girls Club Site Coordinator, Jessica Plasity, enjoys working with the students and staff. She was excited about the opportunities the additional funding affords the students.

The funds were received only a few months after the Hardeeville Club Ribbon-Cutting and Grand Opening Ceremony. The ceremony was held at Hardeeville Elementary School due to a partnership between the Jasper County School District (JCSD) and the Boys and Girls Club of the Lowcountry.

JCSD partnership with Boys and Girls Club of the Lowcountry has also afforded the recent relocation of the Boys and Girls Club-Ridgeland Club. The Ridgeland Club is now located at the Ridgeland Elementary School. Both club locations provide students with additional afterschool enrichment opportunities
