Assistant Principal of Instruction - Dr. Delphine J. Gillard

Dr. Delphine Gillard is a 23-year veteran educator from St. Helena Island, South Carolina. She`s a Visionary Leader, Lifetime Inspirer of Learning and a licensed Educator with a Doctorate Degree coupled with experiences in Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Mentoring, Tutoring and Higher Education. She is also an advocate for students, securing resources, and implementing effective programs.

Dr. Gillard began her educational journey in 1997 at Joseph Shanklin Elementary School as a 5th-grade teacher. She has received degrees in Criminal Justice-BS (Benedict College 1988), Elementary Education-MAT (South Carolina State University 1997); Curriculum: Reading, Writing, and Literature-M.Ed. (Lesley University 2006); Administration/Superintendent-Ed.S. (South Carolina State University 2008); and Educational Leadership-Ed.D. (South Carolina State University 2010).
She has worked in Beaufort County School District as both elementary and middle school teacher. After 14 years of facilitating data-driven instruction in the classroom, she became a Title 1 Facilitator in Jasper County School District. For the past 3 ½ years, Dr. Gillard has served in numerous capacities at South Carolina State University: the Director of the C.A.R.E Center; Assistant Professor of Education; Middle Level Coordinator; African American Advisory Committee; Student SCEA Advisor; Read to Succeed Committee Chair; Dissertation Neutral Chair; SACCOC Committee; and CAEP Self-Study Chair (5). During her tenure in Beaufort County School District and Jasper County School District; she had the rare opportunity of teaching students at the collegiate level that were taught previously at the elementary and middle school levels.

Dr. Gillard is actively involved in many professional memberships, to include; SCEA (South Carolina Education Association) and (BCEA) Beaufort County Education Association, Journal of Teacher Education, Teacher Education Journal of South Carolina, Educational Leadership, Teaching Pre-K-8, State Legislative Report, and Association for Middle-Level Education. She is a Diamond Life Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated. During her career, she has received the Educator`s Award, WTOC Top Teacher Award, and the Title 1 Facilitator Award.
